This quote reminds me of a story my father told me when I was a little girl. One day he was coming home on a bus from work (he is famous for his bus stories) and he sat down on a newspaper. A younger gentlemen came over and asked my father if he was reading the paper he was sitting on? My dad looked at the man with disbelief, stood up and handed the gentlemen the paper. The next day, the same thing happened, except this time my dad said “Yes!”, stood up turned the page and sat back down. The people around him on the bus burst into laughter and my dad snickered. His question to my siblings and I was; “I wonder if people think before they speak?” Today, my dad would ask, “I wonder if people think before they text, or post online?” Some of the things I've read online would curl your hair, which would be great if you wanted a perm. That's not the point. But, speaking of getting things you really don't want...

With more than seven billion people on our little planet, does that mean two can actually pull this off? Erma Bombeck would be proud! Unfortunately, she would not be proud of me, because I have yet to succeed at this. Even with the new found chaos in my local store (see yesterday's blog), I still seem to walk out with more than I went in for, no matter the time of day. Is it clever merchandising or human nature? Perhaps some questions may be best left unanswered. And, if you think you have the answers...

Maybe, Mr. Unknown should of spoke up. It would be nice if someone had all the answers. Let's face it, no one does, because all things are subject to change and at best it is a guess. Often, we only see one side of the coin...

In the movie Father of the Bride, George Banks (played by Steve Martin) didn't like his future son-in-law Bryan MacKenzie (George Newbern), and took him out for a “man-to-man” to talk about his daughter Annie (Kimberly Williams-Paisley) and his thought was, “So I took Bryan out for a drink. Thought we could have a talk, man-to-man. But as I sat there and listened to his side of the story... I realized this was a golden opportunity. If I ever wanted to get rid of Bryan MacKenzie, this was my chance.” At the end of the scene George realized, “Not only was I not getting rid of the kid... I now found myself talking him into staying.”
George had taken the time to stop and listen to the other side of the story. Too often we run on assumptions and pre-build prejudices, which prevent us from seeing the truth and the whole story. When we take the time to listen and understand the whole story, we are able to make better decisions.
