Daily Mood Quotes - November 12, 2011

Daily Mood Quote
Day 192 – November 12, 2011

I have no idols. I admire work, dedication and competence.
~Ayrton Senna

This weekend I will be working on a paper that is due. I have to take the time to analyze my research and write the paper. So the blogs for the weekend will be short and the quotes will speak of dedication. I have made it no secret how important getting my Masters Degree is to me. Roger Staubach former quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys said, “Confidence doesn't come out of nowhere. It's a result of something...hours and days and weeks and years of constant work and dedication.” I believe if you want something and you are willing to work hard for it, you can earn it.

One of my favorite movies is The Natural with Robert Redford who played Roy Hobbs, a very talented baseball player who lost his way because of a mistake. In the movie the love of his life, Iris Gaines (played by Glenn Close) said, “You know, I believe we have two lives.” “The life we learn with and the life we live with after that.” So, off I go to learn and write. Someday, I will take what I have learned today and apply it where my education, experience and talents will be useful and productive. At least that's the plan.

How will you show dedication today?

Daily Mood Quote - October 6, 2011

Daily Mood Quotes
Day 156 – October 6, 2011

“The road of life twists and turns and no two directions are ever the same. Yet our lessons come from the journey, not the destination.”
~Don Williams, Jr.

What a week of twists and turns. I got to say this, what a weird week this has been. There was a death in my family. My mother-in-law passed away, sad, but there are good memories of her and lessons that will carry forward. Steve Jobs passed away, a man who once said, “I want to put a ding in the universe.” He did. President Obama went on television to inform the American People that congress isn't working with him (no big surprise) again. Finally, a doctor is on trial for what happened to Michael Jackson. What an interesting week so far!!!

I am not a reporter or even a journalist, but I do listen and I do say what's on my mind, and this week has a lot to offer. One thing I have found that is constant is "the unexpected." As soon as you think, things have settled down and you can proceed forward, the apple cart looses a wheel and heads off in another direction. That's the nature of life and death. Change happens and usually at the least convenient time. Seems that the universe really doesn’t “get” convenient, it just keeps rolling along, changing and proceeding forward. It never asks if it's okay or if we want it, changes are going to happen. There is a song by Anna Nalick called Breathe that goes “And life's like an hourglass glued to the table, no on can find the rewind button now.....” And so it is; what's done is done and things past, will forever be past. The good and the not-so-good we have done are gone along with the past, even if we live with the echos and shadows of those things. These are choices we make, what to hold onto and what to let go of. The key is to embrace the good's watershed and learn from the not-so-good, then let it drift away on the stream of time.

In the movie A River Runs Through It, with Brad Pitt, Tom Skerritt and Craig Sheffer, Older Norman (narrated by Robert Redford) said, “ My father was very sure about certain matters pertaining to the universe. To him, all good things - trout as well as eternal salvation - came by grace; and grace comes by art; and art does not come easy.”

Thank you to my mother-in-law for raising such an extraordinary man, who I call my husband and my best friend. Thank you to Mr. Steve Jobs for showing us the things we can achieve, if we dream and don't quit. I wish someone could teach congress what they can achieve; if they would just start to “change” some very foolish ideological entrenchments and bad behaviors. It (change) is going to happen anyway; why not start to walk that road forward together, instead of trying to run the other party off the road, or heading in reverse? Let's face it, that way isn't working and is making a “two-car pile up” out of our political system. We all should consider what Abraham Lincoln said, “And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.” Live on, positively.

How will you positively live on today?

Daily Mood Quotes - August 5, 2011

Daily Mood Quote
Day 94 – August 5, 2011

When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it.
~Henry Ford

It seems the harder one tries, the harder the wind comes against them. What's that old saying (paraphrasing here) “fall down seven times, get up eight” in the hope of staying on course. Unfortunately, that is how you succeed; never giving up, never letting someone tell you “you can't” and never allowing anyone “to control your actions or thoughts.” Family and friends are gifts and although their intentions “seem” to be in your best interest, I have found that agendas, hidden or blatant, always come to the surface. So, much like the airplane who takes off against the wind, find your wings and soar, you won't be disappointed, follow your dreams and not someone else's.

Never look back unless you are planning to go that way.
~Henry David Thoreau

Everyone longs for those happier times, the past, the good things we remember (most adults have selected memories), and when times get tough, the first thought is go back to the “past.” Maybe, it's a place where you were happier, had more friendships or made a better living... wherever the happier memories were. Difficult times are no fun, but if we run back to the past, then the lessons we are supposed to learn are never realized and I promise you history, usually the bad part, will repeat itself. So, onward, upward and ever forward; as long as you go forward. Life is meant to be lived, not longed for.

You may be disappointed if you fail, but you are doomed if you don't try.
~Beverly Sills

When you have life dreams, there is usually a reason for it and the reason is to help aim you in the direction you were meant to go. Dreams are our guide posts for where we are supposed to be going and what we should be doing with our lives. So, when we ignore them, we ignore our true selves and end up going places, where perhaps we ought not go. We are almost guaranteed to be unsatisfied with the journey and the destination. We all may not be “set up” or “gifted” to be the very "best there ever was" (thank you The Natural). There is only one “best” in seven billion. Not all of us are Roy Hobbs (played by Robert Redford in the movie The Natural). However, there is a whole lot of room for people aspiring and trying to be the best they can be. The world needs you and your dreams, otherwise they wouldn't be there. If you never try...

Life is a great big canvas, and you should throw all the paint on it you can.
~Danny Kaye

Life is a series of ups and downs, twists and turns, successes and failures. But the fact is, if you don't try, then your canvas will be blank. You can think about painting the “perfect life” all you want, but you have to put the paint down in order for something beautiful to emerge on the canvas of your life. Practice makes perfect.

What picture will you paint today?
